ADVANCED BREAST MRI WITH CADSTREAM

Tower Saint John’s Imaging offers advanced MRI of the Breast interpreted by only the most highly-skilled Tower Imaging Radiologists with specialty training in breast imaging.

THE PROCEDURE

Before a Breast MRI, the patient may be prepared to receive a contrast agent through an IV in the arm. This contrast agent will help to “highlight” the tissues so abnormalities can be seen more clearly. During a Breast MRI, the patient lies on her stomach with both breasts resting in a cushioned recess known as the “breast coil”. If IV contrast is being used, it will be administered at this time. Generally, IV contrast is very safe, but be sure to tell the Technologist is you have ever had a reaction to MRI contrast or if you are particularly sensitive to medications. Once the IV is started, the entire table the patient is lying on is advanced into the opening of the MRI machine. The patient will be asked to lie still for up to 15 minutes at a time while the computer acquires the images; the total examination is made up of several scans, usually 5 to 15 minutes in length and the patient is usually in the exam room for about 45 minutes.

CADSTREAM TECHNOLOGY

Computer-aided-detection (CAD) plays a significant role in improving efficiency, standardization and quality in Breast MRI. CADStream automates image-processing functions and corrects for patient movement during the study. The result is more standardized image processing and analysis, higher quality images and more rapid interpretation of the MRI study. Breast MRI is invaluable for newly diagnosed breast cancer, determining the extent of breast cancer, providing more accurate tumor locations, identifying residual cancer after lumpectomy, assessing response to chemotherapy, and detecting tumor recurrence. In conjunction with mammography, Breast MRI provides unparalleled accuracy in breast cancer screening and diagnosis.

BENEFITS OF BREAST MRI WITH CADSTREAM.

  • Highly sensitive to small abnormalities missed by mammography, especially in dense breasts
  • Simultaneous acquisition of images of both breasts in about 30-40 minutes
  • Effectively images breasts with implants and ruptured implants
  • Localizes primary tumor in women whose cancer has spread to axillary lymph nodes
  • May be useful as a screening tool for women at high risk for breast cancer
  • Evaluates the extent of breast cancer

YOUR RESULTS

Following your Breast MRI, one of our Radiologists will interpret the exam images and prepare a report for your physician. Your physician will contact you to discuss the results.
